Many have questions after the disappointing 2018 Winter Olympics performance by the USA national hockey teams. Can the team again win gold? However, the answer is not good news for the entire world. The USA has a history full of disappointments, especially with Olympic hockey. The national hockey team has always been close to winning a medal at the Olympics. However, this has never happened.

Angela Ruggiero

Angela Ruggiero played hockey for Team USA in her twenties. In 1998 she was the youngest U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team member. It went on winning gold in Nagano Japan. She played for Team USA in the 2002-2010 Olympic Games.

Herb Brooks

Herb Brooks, born August 5, 1937. Brooks was raised in a small duplex in St. Paul. Brooks was the captain of his high school hockey team that won the Minnesota state title. Under legendary Coach John Mariucci, Brooks continued his hockey career at the University of Minnesota. In the 1957-58 season, he scored 45 points. He played on many U.S. National teams in the 1960s and 1970s.

Miracle on Ice

1980 Olympic Men's National Hockey Team beat the Soviet Union to win a gold medal. This earned them the title of "Miracle on Ice". This remarkable feat is an important piece of Cold War sports history.


Herb Brooks' plan: To get players to hate him

Herb Brooks is a hockey coach who lived in Davos, Switzerland, and will become the coach of the New York Rangers in March. Jim Craig, who is a Boston Bruins player, was raised in the same house as Herb. While playing for the Boston Bruins, Craig was paid $35,000 to appear in a Coca-Cola commercial. The question is whether Brooks' scheme to make his players hate him or not.

Soviet hockey team's scrappy style

Some of the Soviet hockey team's players were left-handed. They were taught to use only their dominant right hand to hold the stick. Therefore, they were often forced into playing on their weaker side. They could not afford to fetishize handiness so they came up with ways to compensate.

Brian O'Neill, a professional ice hockey forward from the United States, is Brian O'Neill. He is currently signed with EV Zug of the National League. He has played for the USA National Hockey Team in five games.
