The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is the official governing body of the sport in America. As a member of FIFA, it has participated in seven World Cups in a row. It has also hosted two Women's World Cups. It has also been awarded four Olympic Gold Medals. Learn more on U.S. Soccer.

FIFA is the FIFA member. The United States national team soccer team is one of FIFA's members. In 1885, the team was founded for the first time. It was defeated by Canada in its first game outside of the United Kingdom. The U.S. won this match 1-0. The U.S. reached the finals of the World Cup in 1934. The next year, it played in Newark, New Jersey, but the game was not recognized by FIFA. In 1904, the U.S. won bronze and silver medals in men's soccer at the St. Louis Summer Olympics, organized by the Christian Brothers College and St. Rose Parish. It was the first tournament to be held outside of Europe.

The United States is a FIFA member. It belongs to CONCACAF as its regional federation. CONCACAF manages North American international soccer. The United States Soccer Federation is a non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. It is responsible for governing both professional and amateur soccer in the United States, as well as sanctioning soccer tournaments.

It has been a part of seven consecutive FIFA World Cups

Until 1982, the U.S. men's soccer team had been almost irrelevant in the international game. Despite the existence of the North American Soccer League in the 1960s & 1970s, it did not become a major force within global soccer. U.S. soccer did not stop there. The United States' first World Cup appearance was in 1982. After losing to Egypt in tiebreaker, they were 1-1-1.


Since then, the soccer team has had a rich and varied history. U.S. Soccer made its debut at the World Cup in the 1990s and reached the quarterfinals twice. Today, the team is a leading force in the sport and has hosted three World Cups.

It has hosted two FIFA Women's World Cups.

In 1999, the United States hosted the Women's World Cup. The competition was moved from China in 1994, when it was first hosted. The bid was approved and the U.S.S. Soccer team hosted the tournament. The U.S. women's team won U.S. Cup '95. This tournament saw the US beat Mexico 4-0, and tie Colombia. The women's team finished third, beating Canada by 3-0, and earned all-star recognition.

The US soccer team has hosted many other international soccer events including the Women's Olympic Games (Women's Olympic Games) and the Pan-American Games (Women's Olympic Games). The US women's national soccer team has made significant progress since 2014, and their World Cup success has increased their international standing. Tobin Heath and Abby Wambach are among the most well-known names in women's soccer.

It has won four Olympic Gold medals

The United States has won four Gold medals in Olympic soccer history. Both the women's and men's soccer teams have won one gold medal and one silver. The 1996 gold medal won by the US soccer teams was their first. They defeated China in Atlanta 2-1. They beat Norway 2-0 to win their second gold medal in Sydney. They then won three consecutive games.

The dominance of the women's team in soccer has been a tradition. Canada beat them in the semifinals at Rio. They have won more golds medals but have not yet won any World Cups. Abby Wambach isn't yet ready to retire, but she used her Olympic experience to motivate the team and give them an opportunity for improvement.
