NWSL is a professional 12-team women's soccer league
The NWSL in the United States is a women's league of soccer. The season runs from February through October and the Challenge Cup takes place between March and May. Each team plays 22 regular league games. The NWSL Shield, which is given to the best team, is awarded to that team. There are also playoffs. The six teams with the most points advance to the championship final. In the first round, the lower-seeded team plays single knockout matches. The higher-seeded team hosts single knockout games. The champions advance to the championship game, played at a predetermined site.

While there were rumors of expansion, no concrete plans have been made. The league will remain as it is, and it is likely that there will be no expansion this season. Real Salt Lake's Indy Eleven has expressed interest in joining the league as well as three California men’s teams. The league is open for new teams but there was no announcement of expansion for 2016.

Players Association supported The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by staging the Ultimate Breakaway Weekend. Olympic athletes Lance Armstrong, the United States Women's National Team, and Sheryl Crow joined them at Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas. Anthony LaPaglia and Anthony LaPaglia also joined the Players Association for an exhibition featuring area youth soccer players from the University of Nevada. In support of the athletes, the Players Association also hosted a benefit concert for both the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (ASC) and the American Cancer Society.
