Spain's Women’s World Cup Performances

wvb

Spain played with more intensity against Sweden than against the USA after a lackluster first half. The US's inability to finish was well-reported, but JenniHermoso scored a brilliant goal that tied the score at nine minutes. Second half saw a leveling of physicality, with Spain failing numerous penalties and yellow card conversions. Megan Rapinoe scored a goal for Spain in the 76th minutes. The US's fitness level was best shown in the last 15 minute.

La Roja's performance against America

La Roja's performance versus the United States was eye-opening. The U.S. WNT had not conceded a goal in eight consecutive competitive games, outscoring their opponents 44-0. Despite America's impressive goal-scoring records, the Spaniards have become stronger. They are a dangerous and capable side, capable of applying pressure on the inexperienced U.S. goalkeeper. La Roja has been disappointed by the two previous goals they scored, both of them by Megan Rapinoe.

Their formation against South Africa

Spain started their match against South Africa using a 4-3-3 system. This allowed their wide attackers to occupy the half-spaces while creating space for their fullbacks. South Africa had little chance to counterattack as the midfield was compact. The attacking midfielders of Spain were primarily responsible for the goals, with the exception of a few good efforts from Amanda Mthandi and Kgatlana.

Their away kit against South Africa

Red change jerseys were worn by the Springboks last time they played against Argentina in 2017. In September 2017, they wore one in red against Argentina. Asics provided a promotional product, the red away jersey. This saw the Springboks & Blitzboks sporting all the South African flag colours. They also wore greens, blacks, and whites in the Sevens Series.

Their performance against Sweden

In the quarter-final of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, Sweden beat Germany 2-1. The victory secured Sweden a place in the final and will face either France or Germany in the final at Wembley. The Swedish team used athleticism to overcome Germany's backline. In the 48th minute, they won with a goal that was just two minutes after the break. Sweden won the 1984 European Championships on penalties. They hope to repeat this feat at Wembley.

Their knockout round match with Germany

The Spaniards are in great form since Alexia Putellas was injured in their previous game. Germany also won their last game and has been a consistent force in the tournament. The hosts are still on top form and will be looking for a spot at the knockout stage. Germany has however lost Marie-Antoinette Kathoto to injury while France has been struggling to find its feet in this tournament.
